Patch's 'Most Wanted' Helps Nab Fugitive with West Roxbury Connection

A Patch online story from 2011 has resulted in the apprehension of two fugitives — a man in New York and a man with West Roxbury ties — one of whom was wanted by the North Haven and Clinton police departments in Connecticut.

Poll: Westie vs. West Roxbury - What Do You Call It?

I've heard it called both, Westie and West Roxbury, and I wasn't sure what really is appropriate. Afterall, I didn't grow up in the area, so I asked some local voices, some West Roxbury lifers, an elected official or two, and some expert outsiders. Is it 'Westie, kid!' I'm looking at you, Catholic Memorial Knights! What do you say, students headed to BLS, BLA and any other school? Is calling it Westie a youth thing, and us old folks don't understand the Westie kids today? I started with West Roxbury native Michelle Hughes Benfer, who happens to be Senior Regional Publisher of New England for Patch …

City, Writing Organization Seeking West Roxbury Seniors For Memoir Project

No writing experience is necessary; workshops are set to begin in early April.

Boston's Commission on Affairs of the Elderly and Grub Street, Inc., a non-profit writing organization based in downtown Boston, are offering West Roxbury seniors with stories to tell the tools with which to tell them. The Memoir Project, which provides workshops to senior citizens to help them craft memoirs, has been to other Boston neighborhoods and its goal is to get to all of them. West Roxbury's turn begins in early April, when a neighborhood location to be determined will begin hosting two-hour Thursday sessions. "The purpose of the program is to teach senior residents the rudiments of memoir writing and to turn memories into coherent narratives that are later published," said Tula Mahl of the Elderly Commission. If you're eager to …
