A Patch online story from 2011 has resulted in the apprehension of two fugitives — a man in New York and a man with West Roxbury ties — one of whom was wanted by the North Haven and Clinton police departments in Connecticut.
Two fugitives from justice, one with ties to West Roxbury, have been apprehended by police after they were identified due to a "Clinton's Most Wanted" article published in February of 2011 on the Clinton Patch in Connecticut. According to Detective Bryan Pellegrini of the Clinton Police Department, the story begins in West Roxbury, Mass., 125 miles from Clinton. Journalistically, it all started with one article that listed the names, photos and descriptions of four men, all wanted for crimes (burglary, larceny, violation of probation) by the Clinton Police Department. The first to be identified was 22-year old Trevor Hammar who fled to a small town outside of Saratoga, N.Y. After meeting with an employee of the social services department…

Is referring to our beloved neighborhood as Westie or West Roxbury a matter of class, age, or old vs. new schools?
Westie or West Roxbury? What do you call our beloved Boston neighborhood? Our hamlet with a Bellevue Hill view of the metropolis skyscrapers? I've heard it called both, Westie and West Roxbury, and I wasn't sure what really is appropriate. Afterall, I didn't grow up in the area, so I asked some local voices, some West Roxbury lifers, an elected official or two, and some expert outsiders. Is it 'Westie, kid!' I'm looking at you, Catholic Memorial Knights! What do you say, students headed to BLS, BLA and any other school? Is calling it Westie a youth thing, and us old folks don't understand the Westie kids today? I started with West Roxbury native Michelle Hughes Benfer, who happens to be Senior Regional Publisher of New England for Patch …

No writing experience is necessary; workshops are set to begin in early April.
Boston's Commission on Affairs of the Elderly and Grub Street, Inc., a non-profit writing organization based in downtown Boston, are offering West Roxbury seniors with stories to tell the tools with which to tell them. West Roxbury's turn begins in early April, when a neighborhood location to be determined will begin hosting two-hour Thursday sessions. "The purpose of the program is to teach senior residents the rudiments of memoir writing and to turn memories into coherent narratives that are later published," said Tula Mahl of the Elderly Commission. If you're eager to …
