Fisher House Dedicates Healing Garden, Unveils Sculpture by Iraq War Vet

Fisher House Boston is a facility on the VA Hospital site in West Roxbury a free of charge hotel for families of veterans receiving treatment.

  On Saturday, Fisher House Boston dedicated a Healing Garden and unveiled a sculpture created by wounded Iraq War veteran in West Roxbury. Staff Sgt. William R. Kleinedler created the sculpture “Integro” - made of steel and copper, standing 12-feet high. It was built with the help of 16 students from Worcester Technical High School where the sculpture was constructed, according to a press release. Integro means “to begin anew,” is located in the Fisher House Healing Garden alongside natural elements selected with healing in mind. The garden was designed and built by the Garden Continuum of Medfield. The Healing Garden and sculpture were dedicated to all branches of the military, and the men and women who have served. West Roxbury Resident Running in 36th Marine Corps Marathon for National Fisher House Team

Tim West and his brother-in-law, George Brooks, formed their own two-man team, the Bean Town Runners, help them hit their donation goal!

After their first Marine Corps marathon last year, West Roxbury native Tim West and his brother-in-law George Brooks, knew where they'd be a year later - back in Arlington, VA, raising more money for the Fisher House. "We are so grateful for the service and sacrifice of our troops and their families..." wrote Tim West on his and Brooks' Bean Town Runners donation page.  On October 30th of this year, West and Brooks will be running in the 36th Marine Corp Marathon as part of the National Fisher House Team. West wrote about his 2010 experience, "I can truly say it was one of the most moving and meaningful races I have even run. West Roxbury Volunteers Provide a Home Away from Home at the Fisher House

Residents, businesses and more continue to help the Fisher House at the VA Hospital.

Many West Roxbury residents and local volunteers provide a haven for military families at the Fisher House, which offers a home away from home to family members of patients staying at the VA Hospital. The Fisher House serves veterans' families, allowing them to stay free of charge and runs on the backbone of the volunteers and the service they provide.  “I became involved because of Brigid,” said Cheryl Boemer, community volunteer. “She kept me inspired about the program.” Brigid Boyle, president of the board of the directors, recognized, emphasized, and voiced the needs for help with the Fisher House project.
